Well after a bit of a hiatus during September (we did go on holiday for a week) I thought I'd better get back to the renovations. Finally got started on the window. Turned out to be far trickier than I expected. Some parts were fairly straightforward and not fiddly at like the immediate surrounds to the panes of glass themselves, however other areas were way more fiddly. The outer part of the window frame was very fiddly, In addition the paint on the window sill just refused to come off.
Next up was the fireplace, hmmm what to say about this. Well the top of the mantle piece was pretty easy to get the paint off, but after that it all went downhill quite quickly.
The rest of the fireplace was covered in very thick paint that really didn't want to come off. To add the the problem, some of the wood has been infested with wood worm in the past and is quite fragile ideally needs to be replaced, but don't have the skills to do it myself, may have to make do and mend by removing the fragile wood (in places it's just dust) and then using wood filler to fill on the resulting hole. It didn't help when part of the fireplace fell off while I was stripping the paint. Fortunately it was just a decorative piece and can be refitted, just needs cleaning up, sanding smooth, it can then be glued/nailed back in place.
