July 2018

Finally managed to complete the plastering, this wall wasn't too bad and as I've gone along I've learnt how to make the finishing coat as smooth as possible. There were a couple of issues, one being the section above the door fell out when I was putting the first coat on back in 2017, but with the use of some PVA glue I was able to seal the loose material underneath and after that the plaster went on without any issues. The second being I'd fitted some plaster board to the ceiling but had not cut it to be a tight fit and so had to fill in the gaps, but all in all I think the finish is pretty good, almost makes me want to go back and do the previous two walls, but that's not going to happen :).

Wall with door to left

This was a little trickier, mainly because of the 45 degree angles between the wall on the left and the right, but apart from that it was a fairly easy job and again the finish isn't too bad for an utter amateur.

Plastered wall with fireplace

A little trickier than the wall with the radiator mainly due to the door being in the way and the light switch and the 2 gang socket, but again by now I had mastered what to me works well for ensuring a smooth finish, namely wait for the plaster to have gone hard but not solid to the touch, then spray the plaster with water and run the plastering trowel over it repeatedly to make a smooth shiny surface, at the same time a small amount of plaster sticks to the trowel and can fill in small imperfections in the surface. I'm sure as I go on I'll get faster and better at this plastering lark.
