Kitchen
Having completed the bedroom, I thought what can I tackle next. Should I go for a slightly bigger but essentially similar type room, like another bedroom, or go for something far more involved, like a kitchen?
Well the kitchen won out, and so without further ado, welcome to my next project.
As you can see from the plan next/below this text, the shape of the room isn't too dramatic, only this is only half of the kitchen. It used to be the pantry when my grandad was alive, but when he died and the house was prepared for renting out, the kitchen and pantry were knocked together into one room, which in some ways makes the renovation a little easier and removes a little urgency as we can have one operational kitchen while I do this one up.
The idea, and the plan doesn't show it, is to install a new set of units and sink along the wall with the window.
There will be a new ceiling with low power recessed lighting to replace the current single light fitting in the room.
The laminate floor will be removed to reveal the original red tiled floor that I remember from my childhood, there will be extra work as well, where the wall was knocked down to make the previous kitchen and separate pantry into one room, the new floor is simply concrete, somehow I'll need to remove some of the concrete and then move tiles from a section of floor that'll be covered up to the exposed floor and fill in or replace with similar tiles the ones I've moved, doesn't sound complicated or messy at all.
Once this half of the kitchen is completed, then I'll do the other side, the final layout of which hasn't yet been decided.
Assuming the same speed of progress with the bedroom, I estimate anywhere up to 10 years to complete this room 😀.
